I began to see the work that I was doing with the arts in therapy as having an emancipatory quality, as embedded in the world and as world-making. I shifted my attention from focusing on the artwork as an 38 Art in Action expression of the self of the artist to seeing the work as pointing toward the world, as an expression of the human capacity for poiesis, and as an opening to the expansion of the range of possibilities.
